Cookies (United States)

History & Origin
Its history dates back to 17th-century Netherlands. The word "cookie" comes from the
Dutch "koekje", meaning "little cake". Dutch settlers then
brought this tradition to the United States. The round, flat, chewy or crispy cookie
was born in the 1930s in Massachusetts. It was Ruth Wakefield,
owner of the Toll House Inn, who had the idea of incorporating chocolate pieces
into her cookie dough, thinking they would melt. The result gave birth to the
very first "chocolate chip cookie", which became an icon.

Description

Prepared with butter for richness, sugar (often a mix of white and
brown), flour, an egg to bind it all, a hint of vanilla, a pinch of
salt, and of course, dark or white chocolate chips that melt just right during
baking.

Ingredients: Gluten, eggs, dairy products, tree nuts

Three variations: Dark chocolate, White chocolate and/or praline, chocolate-
hazelnut.
